What I learned While Working for The Record Online

While working for The Record Online I learned how to write in a journalistic lense, got to hone my video editing skills and audio editing skills, and got to learn how to do photography from an iPhone; as it was the only camera that I had for taking photos. I also mastered the art of editing photos and videos on my phone, for if I couldn’t get the files in their current size on my laptop. I also learned how to use Photoshop and Premiere Pro, and further mastered my skills in Adobe Audition.

Time flew by fast while I was working for The Record Online; as it made college go by a lot faster. I don’t know why. I guess because I was always busy. But I am very proud of myself and all the work that I put into The Record Online. I’m also grateful for the friends that I made along the way and the ones who acted as mentors.

I was aware that I had very good writing skills since I was in high school. I just needed a little help with spelling and some grammar. English class was always a breeze even in college. And after a professor at Five Towns College took note of my writing skills, while another took note of my work ethic and dedication. Those professors are Professor Boyle and Professor Haerr and without them, I wouldn’t be aspiring to be a Journalist. And this blog would have never been made.

It took a lot of thought but I have realized that although some of my skills are lacking in Mass Communications one that is my strength is writing. And it took me a year of not being in college to realize that. Talk about time wasted. But now that I know what jobs to apply for, and I’ve done the math on how long I worked for The Record Online. I know how much experience I gained in what felt like only a few years, even though it was. I only worked for The Record Online while I was attending Five Towns College. Once you graduate you can no longer work for The Record Online, as it requires being a student at Five Towns College. But it was fun while it lasted.

Now I hope to find a career as a Journalist at a local newspaper, blog, or news station near you, though ideally in New York. Though I’d consider moving out of state.
